James Suckling: 93–94 points Gorgeous fruit and velvety tannins… full-bodied and dense… best ever second wine from here.
Overview & Heritage
Second Wine of Château d’Issan: Created in 1995, Blason d’Issan offers a more approachable expression from the estate’s younger vines, while still reflecting the Margaux terroir.
Vineyard & Composition: Made from the estate’s younger vineyards (average vine age ~35 years), planted on gravelly and alluvial hills. The 2016 blend is approximately 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 14–16 months in oak barrels (about 35% new).
Vintage Conditions: A contrasting year—wet winter to early summer, followed by a hot and dry summer. Beneficial rains in mid-September and an Indian summer fostered ideal ripening, creating a well-balanced wine.
